The face behind the pen
Hello I’m Author Chey. I’m signed under Soulja Choc Presents.
Q1. What made you start writing?
I picked up reading to fulfill my dream and to show my daughters and others that it’s never too late to follow and achieve your dream.
Q2. How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing under a year and have so many different things I want to cover so I plan on writing for many more to come.
Q3. What is the hardest part about being an author?
Gaining readers when so many are set with a list if favorite authors already, I know all too well how hard it is picking up and reading something from someone new
Q4. What lessons have you learned about being an author?
Don’t rush, don’t get discouraged and learn to love the not so good reviews, you can learn from them to perfect your craft.
Q5. What is the best part of being an author?
Digging within your crazy side and create magic with words and not be judged and locked away in a padded room lol
Q6. Does the cover play a significant role in buying process?
Coming from a readers mind I’d say yes it can make the difference although I’m very known to say Don’t Judge a Book by It’s Cover.
Q7. Tell us a little bit about your cover art. Who designed it? Why did you go with that particular image/artwork?
My Publisher Author Souljachoc handles everything pertaining to covers, however he will ask if we want a specific look or theme, for example my latest release has my niece on the cover that passed away January 2nd.
Q8. Please describe what the story/book is about.
It’s a completed series I wrote with my Publisher. It’s called My Hearts on Lock. It has 3 parts and is a short cute story. It’s about a biracial couple that met while Lil Riccy was incarcerated. They find love and by the time the series ends, tables turned and Jess the loyal girlfriend ends up in jail and the question on everyone’s mind is; Will Lil Riccy be able to fight temptation and remain loyal to Jess.
Q9. Who is your favorite character from your book and why?
From this series, I will say Jess. She is strong willed, she is very loyal and definitely rides for her man, she also has strong family values.
Q10 Who is your intended audience and why should they read your book? What makes your endeavors unique?
I have no specific Target for readers, perhaps it’s because I will pick up and read anything if the synopsis is catchy and I’m recommended it. I would like to think k what’s unique with my endeavors is I’m actually a older “white” woman that was raised in the inner city and can relate to the struggle of not living what stereotypical individuals define as the American Dream. That painted picture of the nice house white picket fence was never a part of my world so I can’t relate.
Q.11 Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
I honestly don’t know, maybe after seeing that new Lifetime movie based on Griselda Blanco that Katherine Zeta Jones would do good.
Q12 Is there any more projects you are currently working and what were your past works?
Yes I have another book out that part two will be released in February along with a short romance story that will be in an anthology in February. I actually just came with a new storyline/plot last night for a new project to start next week when I wrap up Love’s Unexpected Twist 2.
Q13. What advice would you offer an aspiring author?
Don’t quit. It’s not easy in the beginning, and it takes time to build up a following, and build your brand, don’t get involved in all the mess that can come in the industry
